I would like to express my good wishes to all Nepalese sisters together with all sisters across the world for peace, prosperity, good health, steady progress, gender equality, women empowerment, and guarantee of women’s human rights on the occasion of 107th International Women’s Day, which is being celebrated worldwide with the slogan “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030.”
Due to the values and assumptions tempered by the existing social customs, religious superstition, and male chauvinistic mentality, women are educationally, socially, and economically back-warded in comparison to males; thus their condition remains pitiable. Commemorated as a day to raise voice for the rights of women including their social, economic, political, and cultural development, March 8 is celebrated as International Women’s Day every year across the world. The developmental goals of new millennium declared by the United Nations (UN) in 2000 and many other aims of sustainable development adopted by the UN General Assembly refer to the empowerment and equality of women. Our constitution ensures rights and well-being of women, and the periodical plans and programs also feature priorities in policy provisions and institutional developments for woman empowerment and gender equality resulting in some improvement in the plight of women.
In the end, as the implementation of declarations and commitments acknowledged at the international level on women empowerment and gender equality and our constitutional and legal provisions, and the execution of policy and programs concerning the emboldening of women shall progressively ensure the rights of women and gender equality, I express my good wishes and congratulate all on the occasion of the 107th International Women’s Day and wish that may this day inspire us all to move ahead united in the direction of ensuring the rights, equality, empowerment and human rights of women.
Thank you!
